ESPN 300 DB Miles gets TAMU offer

By Damon Sayles

ESPN 300 safety and Tennessee commit Kameron Miles (Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite) got the one offer that scares many Volunteers fans.

On Monday, Miles picked up an offer from Texas A&M. While he’s still solid with the Volunteers, his newest offer is the one offer that can give him everything he wants -- a chance to play in the SEC while traveling only three hours from home.

“It’s in Texas, so it’s closer to home. That’s one thing I really like,” said Miles, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound, four-star safety. “It’s the only Texas school in the SEC. I can still play in the SEC and still be in Texas.

“I’m kinda glad I got an offer from them. If I did have to decommit, I know I’d have some good offers to rely on.”

Miles may have additional reason to consider the offer. His cousin is star defensive lineman Damontre Moore. Recruited by secondary coach Marcel Yates, Miles said he is a fan of how quickly the Aggies have adapted to SEC play.

“I like how they play defense,” Miles said. “The style they play is very aggressive. I could get used to that.”

Miles added that while the offer is intriguing, he’s still committed to Tennessee and happy with what the Volunteers have to offer. He said he will further evaluate his options after his team’s season. West Mesquite is preparing for its regular season finale, which will be followed by the Texas Class 4A playoffs.

“I’m still with Tennessee, but A&M could play a big part in my recruiting process,” he said. “Right now, I’m focused on the playoffs. I’m not worried about the recruiting process. I don’t want to have that distraction while playing.”

Miles is ranked No. 13 among safeties nationally and ranked No. 35 among all players in Texas in the Class of 2013. He committed to Tennessee on May 21.
