LSU tops 2014 ATH Nick Harvey's top five
By Damon Sayles
While it’s still somewhat early in his recruiting process, 2014 athlete Nick Harvey (Lancaster, Texas/Lancaster) has a top five.
Harvey announced via Twitter his early front-runners -- in order -- on Tuesday. LSU leads the way, followed by Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“I like all five of them,” Harvey said. “All the coaches make me feel comfortable around them. I just like all the schools.”
Harvey, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound rising junior, said LSU’s overall environment makes it No. 1 for now. Texas A&M is a close second because of his relationship with the coaching staff.
“I actually took an unofficial visit [to LSU] last week, and I liked everything about it,” Harvey said. “The coaches were cool, and I liked the lifestyle and how the players live. The stadium there is big, too. I think I can get better if went there.
“With Texas A&M, [receivers] Coach [David] Beaty made me very comfortable when I was there, and Coach [Kevin] Sumlin told me himself I was wanted down there. They made me feel at home. I liked it.”
Harvey said that his top five is subject to change, and he doesn’t plan on making a final decision until next spring. He’s currently focused on the 2013 season, where he’ll line up in Lancaster’s secondary as well as on offense as a receiver and Wildcat quarterback.
Defensively, Harvey was a first-team, all-district defensive back as a sophomore. Offensively, Harvey scored four touchdowns last season – two rushing, one receiving and one on an 81-yard punt return.
Harvey additionally has been offered by Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Virginia.
