DT Kerrick Huggins solid to Texas A&M

By Max Olson

DALLAS – You couldn’t miss Kerrick Huggins on Friday night.

At 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, the three-star Dallas Skyline defensive tackle usually towers over his peers. This night was no different from the rest, with the Texas A&M pledge serving as the key disruptive cog in Skyline’s defense in a 56-24 rout of Dallas Jesuit.

Huggins couldn’t have been happier after the victory. After watching Thomas Johnson and Peter Jinkens lead Skyline to the 5A state semifinals last year, he knows it’s on him and his fellow seniors to keep the Raiders on a roll.

“We got a lot to prove to get back to where we were last year, but we’ve started off good. I feel like I’m playing good,” Huggins said. “We’re trying to get back to where we were last year on the big stage and capitalize.”

Huggins had two important visitors watching him on Friday night: Oklahoma sent assistants James Patton and Tim Kish down to Dallas to watch the game.

The Sooners offered Huggins a scholarship last month, but that didn’t sway him much. While he’s appreciated OU’s recent interest, he said A&M fans have nothing to worry about.

“I’m solid,” he said. “Gig ‘Em all the way.”

Huggins is not looking to take any official visits elsewhere this fall. Seeing how the Aggies have started this season with a 3-1 record has only made staying committed even easier.

“I like it there, I love it,” he said, “ and they’re doing good in the SEC. I’m solid. My recruiting, it’s over.”
