Key recruiting visits -- SEC

By Gerry Hamilton

The Class of 2014 is down to two official visit weekends remaining. As expected, there are several official visits that potentially impact the SEC this weekend, including visits by some of the top national prospects on the board.

Rashaan Evans
In-state powers are battling for Rashaan Evans, but don't count out UCLA.
1. DE Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross )
Visiting: Florida State

The edge pass-rushing prospect visited LSU last weekend, and will make the trip to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend to make an official visit to Florida State. While the Under Armour All-American and No. 14 prospect in the ESPN 300 has visited Florida and LSU already, but it could very well be the Seminoles that have the best chance to upset in-state Georgia. Carter will take an official visit to Georgia on Jan. 31 before announcing on national signing day on ESPNU.

2. CB Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Ala./Hoover)
Visiting: Alabama

The No. 5 cornerback in the loaded class made an official visit to Florida State last weekend, and will head to Alabama this weekend. A visit to Mississippi State will follow on Jan. 26, and UCLA is scheduled for Jan. 31. The decision is expected to come down to the Crimson Tide and Seminoles, and Alabama could be tough to beat at the end of the day for the nation's No. 15 prospect.

3. WR Malachi Dupre (River Ridge, La./John Curtis Christian)
Visiting: Florida State

The nation’s top-ranked receiver prospect visited LSU last weekend and Alabama the two days following. Now it’s Florida State’s turn to try to pull the upset over in-state LSU. UCLA, which is a sleeper to sign the high-flying wide receiver, will get a visit on Jan. 31. Dupre will announce on national signing day on ESPNU.

4. DE Solomon Thomas (Coppell, Texas/Coppell)
Visiting: Arkansas

Thomas is widely considered a Stanford lean, but the Arkansas Razorbacks will take a swing this weekend as Brett Bielema & Co. try and pull the upset and land the No. 25 prospect in the ESPN 300. Thomas has previously visited UCLA in September. His sister is a student at Arkansas.

Rashaan Evans
In-state powers are battling for Rashaan Evans, but don't count out UCLA.
5. OLB Rashaan Evans (Auburn, Ala./Auburn)
Visiting: Auburn

The uber-athletic outside linebacker prospect, ranked No. 52 in the ESPN 300, visited Alabama last weekend and will take his final official visit to hometown Auburn this weekend. While many have pegged this recruitment as a decision between in-state powers, UCLA is very much in the race. Evans took an official visit to UCLA in September, but will also make an unofficial visit to see the Bruins again Jan. 31.

6. OL Braden Smith (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South)
Visiting: Texas A&M

The physically imposing Smith made an official visit to Auburn last weekend, and will head to College Station to see Texas A&M this weekend. The Tigers and Aggies are working to beat out TCU, where Smith’s sister, Megan, is a member of the Horned Frogs track and field team. Smith, ranked No. 127 in the ESPN 300, will make an official visit to TCU Jan. 31.

7. WR Shaquille Davidson (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney)
Visiting: Auburn

The longtime South Carolina commit, ranked No. 146 in the ESPN 300, is scheduled to make an official visit to Auburn this weekend. While the Tigers have been pursuing the talented wide receiver for quite some time, it would be considered a major upset if he doesn’t sign with South Carolina.

Isaiah McKenzie
SEC powers are trying to edge out Notre Dame for slot receiver Isaiah McKenzie.
8. QB Treon Harris (Miami/Booker T. Washington)
Visiting: Auburn

The dual-threat quarterback, ranked No. 163, made an official visit to Florida last weekend, and will be at Auburn this weekend. An official visit to hometown Miami is scheduled for Jan. 31 as well. There is a growing thought that Harris -- who is committed to Florida State -- could end up in the SEC with the Gators or Tigers, depending on how this weekend's visit goes.

9. DT Travonte Valentine (Hialeah, Fla./Champagnat Catholic)
Visiting: LSU

The athletic defensive tackle has been committed to Florida, Louisville and Miami at different points in the last two years. This weekend, LSU will take its swing at the recent Hurricanes decommit. Valentine, ranked 164th, is scheduled to visit Miami Jan. 31, with his recruitment down to the Tigers and Hurricanes.

10. WR Isaiah McKenzie (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage)
Visiting: Ole Miss

After a huge senior season, McKenzie is in the middle of a late battle in the recruiting season. After visiting Florida last weekend, Ole Miss will take its shot at the dynamic ESPN 300 slot receiver and returner this weekend. He will visit the heavy favorite Notre Dame on Jan. 31. Both Will Muschamp and Brian Kelly made in-home visits this week, with Hugh Freeze having made his in-home visit last Thursday.
