ESPN 300 wide receiver Richard Benjamin (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) has decided to reopen his recruitment and is no longer considered a commitment to UCF, according to Tampa Bay Tech head coach Jayson Roberts.
The 6-foot, 190-pound senior committed to UCF last month saying the Knights were his final decision. But after discussing things with his coaches and other confidants Benjamin will make another decision at a later date.
"From the brief conversation I had with Richard today he expressed that he wanted to weigh his options," Roberts said. "The whole issue with the sanctions had him feeling a bit uneasy. He was thinking that he might have rushed into a decision."
For the last month Benjamin had been one of UCF's loudest and most vocal commits and had been openly lobbying for ESPN 150 athlete Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) to join the class.
Now Benjamin has opened up his recruitment, and according to Roberts it's not certain whether UCF is still being considered.
"From the conversation he and I had today he said he had been in contact in visiting Louisville, West Virginia, Texas A&M and Florida," Roberts said. "I think he would like to visit those four programs."
As a junior Benjmain accounted for over 1,000 yards rushing and receiving.
