HOUSTON -- Texas A&M has plenty of pass catchers in its 2013 class.
As one of the points of emphasis for the Aggies in their current recruiting haul, as many as eight different commitments could wind up as receivers for the Aggies (four receivers, three athletes and a tight end).
Manvel (Texas) High School receiver Kyrion Parker is not concerned about the numbers game. He said so this week at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, where he and high school teammate and fellow Texas A&M commitment Tavares Garner are participating for the American team along with four other Aggies commits.
"No, [I'm] not at all [concerned]," Parker said. "Everything you have to work for. Nothing's earned. So you have to go out there and compete and earn your spot."
If anything, the 6-foot-2, 192-pound receiver is excited about what's ahead. His official visit to Aggieland is scheduled for Jan. 11 and he doesn't have plans for other visits. He's looking forward to seeing how the Aggies fare in the AT&T Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma and getting better in preparation for the next step in his career.
"I've just been working out, trying to get better, just trying to excel at my position," Parker said. "We've got real good momentum. We have one of the top recruiting classes this year and a bunch of great players coming in. You just have to fight for it and everyone is going to see everyone's true competitive side."
Parker said he wasn't surprised by the Aggies' record this season (10-2) and early success in the Southeastern Conference. He's excited to get an in-depth look at the campus during his official visit. As for the Offense-Defense Bowl, he's just ready to measure himself against the best.
"I just want to go out there and compete against the best talent and show them what I can do," Parker said.
