With both Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech having the same open date later this season, Oct. 13, it made sense for the teams to avoid any potential pitfalls of playing a game while a hurricane passed through the state of Louisiana. Hurricane Isaac is approaching the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall within 24 hours.

That being said, it changes the dynamics for Texas A&M a bit as its new season opener -- a Sept. 8 showdown with Florida at Kyle Field -- approaches.

Among the effects:

  • Texas A&M now has a schedule with 12 games in 12 consecutive weeks. This week will essentially serve as the Aggies' open date now.

Patrick Green/Icon SMINew quarterback Johnny Manziel will now make his first start against Florida on Sept. 8.
The middle of the schedule becomes even more of a challenging stretch, as the Aggies will play five games out of six away from College Station. That stretch begins on Oct. 6 at Mississippi, now followed by the Louisiana Tech game in Shreveport, a home date for LSU on Oct. 20, then the back-to-back-to-back stretch of at Auburn, at Mississippi State and at Alabama. That's a doozy.
