MANVEL, Texas — December marked the first time in 20 years that a team from Houston ISD made it all the way to a Class 5A state football title game, but Houston Lamar is showing why it shouldn't be considered a fluke.

The Redskins have a plethora of talent in the current and future classes and much of it was on display on Saturday as they claimed the Maverick 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament on Saturday at Manvel (Texas) High School.

The prize in the 2014 Lamar recruiting class is four-star safety John Bonney, who holds 30 offers and is uncommitted at the moment.
