Texas A&M redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors on Monday for his performance against SMU on Saturday.
Manziel, a Kerrville (Texas) Tivy product, threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns on 20-of-36 passing while rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the Aggies' 48-3 win over the Mustangs. He set school freshman records for single-game passing yards, total offense, tied the school freshman record for passing touchdowns in a game and posted the second-best single-game rushing total for an Aggie freshman. Manziel achieved all of those totals despite not playing the fourth quarter on Saturday.
Manziel and the Aggies (1-1) continue their season at 6 p.m. on Saturday when they host South Carolina State at Kyle Field.
