COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M dropped a 49-42 decision to Alabama on Saturday at Kyle Field in a game filled with momentum shifts, memorable plays and a lot of drama. Time to give out some helmet stickers for strong performances, even in defeat:
- Mike Evans: Wow. What a performance by the sophomore receiver. It's hard to believe that he played only one year of varsity football at Galveston (Texas) Ball High. He set the A&M record for most receiving yards in a game, catching seven passes for 279 yards and a touchdown. He caught four of those passes for 135 yards in the first quarter alone. He routinely beat man-to-man coverage and was a nightmare for the Crimson Tide secondary to defend. He's big, physical, a great blocker in the running game and he even showed a little speed in beating the Tide's defensive backs one-on-one. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, he certainly has the look of a future NFL player.
- Johnny Manziel: The Heisman Trophy winner set a school record for passing yards with 464, beating his old school record of 453 set last season against Arkansas. He threw for five touchdowns and ran for 98 yards, but did have two interceptions. Still, without his play, the Aggies wouldn't have been able to hang in the ballgame.
- Malcome Kennedy: The junior receiver caught three touchdowns -- all in the second half -- and finished with six grabs for 57 yards. His touchdown grabs were key in the Aggies' comeback attempt in the second half.
