Texas A&M Aggies: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
With summer drawing closer, Texas high school football teams are transitioning from spring football to 7-on-7 competition and there were a handful of teams in attendance at the inaugural Crosby Cougar 7-on-7 tournament in Crosby, Texas, on Saturday.
Among them was a talented private school squad, Houston Kinkaid, which appears to have major Division I prospects in the 2014 class and beyond.

Holding more than 40 offers, running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) is arguably the most sought-after recruit in the West region. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound, four-star back is the top running back in the West and the No. 135 player in the country. His offer sheet has seemingly grown by the minute this spring, but he isn't in any hurry to narrow it down.
Despite tweeting out a list of 16 programs several weeks ago, Mixon said Sunday that he only did that to highlight the schools recruiting him the hardest, not anything to be taken as a group of finalists.
"I'm still talking to a lot of people," Mixon said. "The recruiting thing has been crazy the past couple of weeks. I've pretty much been taking it well. I talk to them before school, during lunch and after school. I'm not to the stressful part yet, but the hard part has been staying in contact with everybody."

BRADENTON, Fla. -- On the fields of the IMG Academy Southeast Regional 7-on-7 Tournament, George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake) stood off to the side with a sling hanging off his shoulder and covering his broken wrist.
That injury, suffered a few weeks back, will keep him out of East Lake's spring practices starting at the beginning of May. But fortunately for him, he's already got a ton of offers to begin with and won't be reliant on coaches coming by for the evaluation period.
That doesn't mean he isn't frustrated, though.

HOUSTON, Texas -- After a busy track and field season, ESPN Watch List linebacker Zach Whitley Jr. is turning his attention back to football.
The 2014 prospect's time on the track for this season is complete and on Tuesday at Houston North Shore, the soon-to-be-senior was out at Galena Park ISD Stadium, barking out calls to his defensive teammates during 7-on-7 sessions as he and the Mustangs prepare for the 2013 season.

The Twitter account for Myles Garrett (Arlington, Texas/Martin) tells half truth.
Garrett’s bio reads, “The big silly guy who plays football? Yea thats me,” and those who know Garrett know he enjoys to laugh and joke around. What the Twitter page doesn’t tell is just how athletically gifted the ESPN Watch List defensive end is. In fact, in addition to being the silly guy, friends have a nickname for him that seems to fit.
“They call me Superman,” Garrett said. “I guess it’s cool. It makes me laugh.”

DUNCANVILLE, Texas -- Speed may best define ESPN Watch List wide receiver K.D. Cannon (Mount Pleasant, Texas/Mount Pleasant). His hands may be a close second. His outstanding 4.37-second 40-yard dash time and his 104 catches for 1,597 yards and 25 touchdowns support that.
What Cannon has been working on, recently, has been how to overcome size mismatches against larger defenders in the secondary. At 6 foot and 170 pounds, Cannon knows at the next level, he will up against cornerbacks and safeties who are 15 or 20 pounds heavier -- and just as quick.
Cannon’s been working with the Dallas-area Quick Twitch skills clinic series to improve. The sessions have allowed him to adjust against the bigger athletes he’ll line up against at the BCS level.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas -- When Cecil Sheffield returned a missed call and message from Missouri City (Texas) Thurgood Marshall head coach James Williams on March 7, he received some welcomed news. His son, 2015 cornerback prospect Kendall Sheffield, had been offered a scholarship by perennial Big 12 power Oklahoma.
It wasn't his son's first offer -- Baylor offered Kendall months earlier -- but having a second school in the race certainly put a smile on Cecil's face.

Patrick Green/Icon SMITexas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff have greatly improved the Aggies' recruiting prowess.Winning was nice, but what Kevin Sumlin has done in his time away from the field is perhaps most impressive. He leads a Texas A&M program on pace for a top-5 finish in recruiting, which says plenty about the future, and the state of Texas. Elsewhere, Notre Dame is rising, Alabama and Florida State are in hold-steady mode, and two programs that have fallen off are Oklahoma and Tennessee. ESPN Insider Travis Haney has a stock report.
