TYLER, Texas -- East Texas often is considered one of the nation’s most underrated areas in finding elite talent when it comes to college football recruiting. Sunday featured the inaugural East Texas Sports Network combine, which showcased more than 100 players from East Texas.

The event took place at the Accelerate Performance Enhancement Center (APEC) training facility, which has trained professionals such as quarterback Graham Harrell, running back Kendall Hunter and pro baseball pitchers Phillip Humber and Josh Tomlin.

Brenham (Texas) High School doesn't conduct a traditional spring football practice, but like many of their fellow Lone Star State schools, the Cubs still make sure to get plenty of offseason work in.

That has helped players such as 2014 offensive tackle Austin Schlottmann, who has seen several college coaches walk through the doors of Brenham since the evaluation period began last month.

KATY, Texas -- When Rodney Anderson got called up to Katy High School's varsity squad for the Tigers' 2011 season opener, he was unsure what to expect.

Then a 160-pound freshman, the 2015 running back was elevated as a receiver to help in an area in which the Katy coaches felt they needed a boost in depth.

"It was a huge adrenaline rush," Anderson said of his new responsibilities. "Mentally, I was just trying to make sure I remembered everything and carried out my assignments."

One injury to a teammate changed everything: his position, his playing time, his future.

Kyler Murray's sophomore year has been eventful, to say the least.

The Allen (Texas) High School quarterback led his team to a Texas Class 5A Division I state championship and has seen several schools begin to pursue him in recruiting. To date, the 2015 prospect has five scholarship offers.

In addition, he's in the middle of a baseball season, with his Allen team sitting in first place in its district on the doorstep of the state playoffs as of Monday. Though an accomplished quarterback, Murray has also been successful on the diamond, hitting .372 with 20 stolen bases this season for the Eagles while manning second base.

It's been quite a year for Murray.

Gladewater (Texas) High School defensive tackle Daylon Mack felt confident in where his recruitment was headed.

Having picked up offers from the two most well-known programs in his home state, visiting both campuses and dissecting it all, he felt certain that he was ready to make a commitment to one of them.

Then Alabama extended the 2015 prospect a scholarship offer and Mack took a step back. Now, the 6-foot-2, 307-pound prospect intends to take his time when it comes to decision-making in the recruiting process.

Texas A&M's Maroon-and-White spring football game was not Justin Dunning's first trip to Aggieland.

Like many high school football players in Texas, he has participated in the Texas state 7-on-7 championships, which were annually held at Texas A&M's Penberthy Rec Sports Complex until this year, when it will move to a new town. Dunning also attended the Aggies' home game against South Carolina State in 2012 on his own accord.

But his trip on Saturday was his first true recruiting visit to Texas A&M and in his words, it was a good one.

ALLEN, Texas -- The recruiting process has been good to Kyler Murray so far.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound quarterback has seen several a handful of power conference programs not only show interest, but step forward with scholarship offers for the 2015 prospect.

Arizona State, Clemson, Ohio State and Texas Tech are the programs that have already thrown their hats into the ring.

Frazier, the No. 48 overall recruit in the 2013 class and No. 5 in the state of Texas, talked to ESPN RecruitingNation about why he delayed the decision and which schools are still in the mix.

The Twitter account for Myles Garrett (Arlington, Texas/Martin) tells half truth.

Garrett’s bio reads, “The big silly guy who plays football? Yea thats me,” and those who know Garrett know he enjoys to laugh and joke around. What the Twitter page doesn’t tell is just how athletically gifted the ESPN Watch List defensive end is. In fact, in addition to being the silly guy, friends have a nickname for him that seems to fit.

“They call me Superman,” Garrett said. “I guess it’s cool. It makes me laugh.”

HOUSTON -- Like many of the pass-catchers that were competing with him, Houston Kinkaid tight end Mavin Saunders was simply trying to get better on Sunday when he attended the Next Level Athlete South Houston Video Showcase.

Every chance to compete and work is a positive for Saunders, who is trying to catch up to the rest of pack when it comes to football.

Unlike many of the players in attendance, Saunders hasn't spent his entire life -- or even his entire high school career -- playing football. In fact, he hasn't even played it a full year. The 2014 prospect has only one season of football under his belt.
