Lackawanna College churns out OL

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Mark Duda behaves like a man who knows every cog and every moving part in his college. He stands alongside visitors on the sideline and doesn't break eye contact when he senses a drill is over and it's time to blow the whistle.

He greets a never-ending stream of college coaches but can still tell from his peripheral vision when one of his players isn't giving 100 percent. He's the head football coach and the Dean of Students. Operating on two planes has become second nature to the do-everything coach at Lackawanna College, a junior college that started up a football team in 1993 -- 99 years after the school first opened its doors.

In the program’s 20 years, it has become one of the top destinations for offensive linemen in the Northeast. Duda has helped send more than 100 football players to Division I, and he estimates about 30 of those are the big guys up front.

Being the champs has its benefits, especially when it comes to impressing recruits.

One of the country’s top junior college offensive tackles, Jermaine Eluemunor (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna College) was planning several trips and set official visits to Ohio State and Texas A&M, but now the only trip for certain is a visit to Alabama in mid-July.

Jermaine Eluemunor craned his neck from the passenger seat of his black SUV. He knew he was close to Penn State, so he hoped to catch a glimpse of the mammoth stadium he had heard so much about.

About a mile or two from campus, the junior college offensive tackle out of Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna saw Beaver Stadium loom over the rolling hills. He said he actually rubbed his eyes around 10 a.m. to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

"When I saw it, I'm like, 'Damn, that's big.' Then I got up right next to it and I'm like, 'Woah, holy ... ," he said, cutting himself short. "They brought me inside then and I got to walk around and stuff, and I got to take pictures. It was amazing."

NittanyNation mailbag: Next commit?

Welcome to NittanyNation's mailbag! We asked you to tweet or email your questions this week, and we've selected three to answer in-depth -- starting with the question we received most.

Alex Williams writes in an email: Any idea who will commit next in this class? And who are the biggest names that could commit soon?

Josh Moyer: Well, I think there's a few guys to keep an eye on right now -- mainly two who are kind of on "commitment watch." Defensive tackle Jeremiah Clarke was offered on Thursday and wanted to see Penn State on Saturday. (The coaching staff is on vacation, however, so he'll visit in the near future.) His coach used to play under PSU DL coach Larry Johnson, and he counts Penn State as one of his top three schools. I think there was a good chance he would have committed this weekend if a visit was arranged.

Jermaine Eluemunor (Scranton, Pa./Lackawanna) awoke to a ringing phone around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, assuming it was a premature alarm. But when he rolled over to turn his cell off, he noticed it was actually someone calling.
