Massillon Washington pair map out plan
By Brad Bournival
Cornerback Marcus Whitfield (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) posted a 99.87 at the SPARQ Combine a few months ago at his school. His teammate, tight end Beau Huffman, landed a camp-best 119.58 the same day.
Since that February morning, their recruitments have taken off.
Whitfield now counts offers from Bowling Green, Kent State, Ohio University and Toledo and interest from Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
Huffman holds just the single offer from Toledo but has high interest from Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Ohio University, Pitt, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
“Every coach I talked to said they saw the score,” Huffman said. “I’m hoping that will help me in the long run.”
In the meantime, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound Huffman certainly getting some love.
Ball State, Bowling Green, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio University and Pitt have all been into see him. He’s seen Duke, North Carolina State, Toledo and West Virginia.
But there are two that are starting to stick out a little more.
“Louisville, I like them a lot,” Huffman said. “I definitely want to see them and I’ll be going up to Michigan State to camp.”
Michigan State and Whitfield are hardly strangers, as the Spartans like what they see in the 6-foot, 166-pound cornerback.
He’s had the Spartans visit him as well as Ball State, Illinois, Pitt and Ohio University.
Whitfield checked in on Kent State, Michigan State, Penn State, Toledo and West Virginia.
As for his summer plans, it’ll be back up to East Lansing, Mich., and over to Happy Valley as well, as the Spartans and Nittany Lions will see him in camp.
“They both told me to be patient with the big offers,” Whitfield said. “At Michigan State I like it up there. It’s one solid college town, so is Penn State.”
