Northwestern lands another top-flight QB

By Jared Shanker

Northwestern is quickly building a reputation as one of the preferred landing spots for some of the country's top quarterbacks.

A little more than a month after signing No. 2 dual-threat quarterback Matt Alviti (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), Northwestern landed a commitment from 2014 Watch List quarterback Clayton Thorson (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) on Sunday night.

"Just committed to Northwestern," Thorson wrote in a text message. He was unavailable for further comment.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Thorson was coming off a visit to Penn State last week. Northwestern was one of the first programs to offer Thorson.

Alviti was No. 164 in the ESPN 300 in the 2013 class, and he was preceded at Northwestern by Dan Persa and Mike Kafka.
