Rising junior CB has eye on Pa. schools
By Brad Bournival
Jordan Whitehead (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) has seen the recruiting process up close and personal, as ESPN 150 wide receiver Robert Foster went through the ringer before finally signing with Alabama on Feb. 6.
Whitehead, a 2014 cornerback who posted a 95.64 rating at Saturday's Nike SPARQ Combine in Massillon, Ohio, knows that he needs to spread out his college choices, but when it comes down to it he keeps looking back at the Keystone State.
The 5-foot-11, 161-pound Whitehead has offers from Pittsburgh, Penn State and Rutgers, as well as interest from Michigan and Ohio State.
But there’s just something about the Panthers and Nittany Lions that turns his head. Some of it is proximity, but a lot of it is feeling that comfort level.
“I like Pitt because it’s close to home,” Whitehead said. “Penn State I like it because it’s close as well. The coaches I like at Pitt a lot. Bobby Engram, their wide receivers, coach is great. I like Coach [Charlie] Fisher at Penn State. When he talked to Robert, he talked to me a little bit as well. He’s a nice guy.”
Whitehead has been to Pitt for junior day and is planning on visiting Penn State soon.
Last season he recorded 45 tackles for the Warriors, adding three interceptions, 12 pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
