PSU commit grabs two SEC offers
By Josh Moyer
With Ted Roof's departure to Georgia Tech, it seems as if some SEC schools have wasted no time in going after one of his Penn State commits.
Three-star linebacker Jonathan Walton (Daphne, Ala./Bayside) said Thursday on Twitter he received scholarship offers from a few schools.
Auburn and Tennessee offered Walton, and both also contacted PSU commit Parker Cothren this week, with the Volunteers extending an offer.
Walton already penciled in an official visit to South Carolina for Jan. 18, but it wasn't immediately clear whether he planned to visit Auburn or Tennessee. After Roof decided to leave, however, Walton's commitment to the Nittany Lions could be more in jeopardy.
"I didn't see it coming. I had no clue," Walton said Wednesday about Roof's decision. "It definitely puts some thoughts in my head, but I didn't really have time thinking over everything. I still like the place and everything -- my thoughts haven't changed about the place -- but that affected me in a way because he's my recruiting guy, my defensive coordinator, so it just put thoughts into my head."
Walton committed to Penn State on Dec. 9 during his official visit.
