More schools reaching out to PSU commit

By Josh Moyer

With less than a month until national signing day, Penn State's priority will likely shift -- if it hasn't already -- to retaining commits instead of finding new ones.

Three-star linebacker Jonathan Walton already scheduled an official visit to South Carolina, and now another Penn State commit is being courted by several major programs.

Defensive tackle Parker Cothren (Hazel Green, Ala./Hazel Green) earned an offer from Tennessee a few days ago, and he's also fielded several calls from Auburn. He remains committed to the Nittany Lions, but he's also considering visits elsewhere.

"We talked about it, but there's nothing scheduled right now," he said. "It's a possibility, but it's not for sure yet."

The two-star prospect initially committed to Purdue in July. But his brother sent out his senior film to various schools in November, and Bill O'Brien extended him a scholarship offer four days after receiving that tape.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound lineman said he instantly started leaning toward the Nittany Lions after that call. He decommitted from the Boilermakers and committed to PSU about two weeks later on Nov. 20.

"I think my commitment's strong," Cothren said. "I like Penn State a lot, but the only reason I would ever consider changing would be the distance. So that would be the big ticket, the selling point for me.

"But, right now, I'm all Penn State."
