Boyd to commit Saturday; will make visits
By Jared Shanker
On the fence about a decision earlier this week, one of the nation's top athletes plans to announce his commitment Saturday.
Clairton (Pa.) ESPN 300 athlete Tyler Boyd said Tuesday he will commit during at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Arizona, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia are the programs the No. 17 athlete nationally lists as his top group.
Nearby Pitt is in a strong position to land the four-star Boyd, who has a teammate committed to Pitt (Titus Howard) and another leaning toward the Panthers (Terrish Webb). Boyd's only official visit went to Pitt, and he canceled an official visit to West Virginia and showed up at the Pitt basketball game that same night.
Clairton won its fourth straight state title Dec. 14, and following that game Boyd said he did not know if he would commit at the Army game.
"It's still dated on [Jan. 5] but still thinking if I should commit or not. It's a decision I'm not ready for," Boyd said Dec. 14. "If I had a No. 1, I'd be deciding on Jan. 5."
Boyd said Tuesday night he still plans on making other visits following his commitment Saturday.
