The unrated prospect out of Daphne (Ala.) Bayside said in a text message Sunday morning he committed to Penn State during his official visit over the weekend. He becomes the 14th member of the Nittany Lions' 2013 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-1, 236-pound linebacker said he didn't have time to discuss his commitment because he was boarding a plane. He said Penn State took him to Beaver Stadium Saturday night, and he enjoyed looking at the field with a handful of other recruits.
The official visit, he acknowledged, obviously went well.
Walton nearly committed over the summer, before the sanctions hit. He said early on he was high on Penn State -- he took up a part-time job painting fences and mowing lawns to get to PSU's summer camp -- but his mother advised him to slow his recruitment down once the sanctions were announced.
But he still picked PSU. He joins Brandon Bell (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) as the second linebacker in the class.
