Tyler Boyd does not make WVU official

By Jared Shanker

Four-star Clairton (Pa.) athlete Tyler Boyd was scheduled to drive down to West Virginia for his official visit Saturday morning. That visit is no longer happening.

Clairton assistant coach Eric Fusco said Boyd is not making his scheduled visit to the Mountaineers, once thought to be his leader. Fusco was supposed to take Boyd on the visit.

Boyd, No. 161 in the ESPN 300, has only taken one official visit, which went to Pittsburgh the weekend of Nov. 16.

Arizona, Michigan State, Penn State and Rutgers are the programs Boyd lists as still having interest in. He scheduled a visit to Arizona for the weekend of Dec. 14 but that visit is no longer taking place.

Penn State is making a strong push for Boyd, who had an in-home visit with the Nittany Lions on Thursday. Penn State will be at the PIAA Class A championship Friday to see the ESPN 300 athlete go for a fourth state title.

A newcomer to Boyd's recruitment is Tennessee. New Volunteers coach Butch Jones offered Boyd while at Cincinnati, and a member of the Vols' staff called Boyd on Saturday.
