Penn State-Pitt series extended to 4 games

The Nittany Lions were already set to renew their rivalry with Pitt for two seasons starting in 2016, but Penn State announced Friday that rivalry will now be extended to four years.

From 2016 to 2019, the two will meet every season. Penn State will travel to Pittsburgh on Sept. 10, 2016, and return to Beaver Stadium to face the in-state rival on Sept. 16, 2017. That home-and-home series will continue into the extension.

PSU will visit Pitt on Sept. 8, 2018, and then host Pitt on Sept. 14, 2019.

“Regional rivalries in college football are special," Bill O'Brien said in a news release. "I have been involved in a few as a coach. Penn State versus Pitt is a rivalry rich with history and tradition. We have a great deal of respect for Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panther football program and we are looking forward to competing against them on the gridiron.”

The rivals last faced each other 12 years ago.
