PSU assistant visits 2014 DT Morehart

By Josh Moyer

Penn State originally decided to recruit Connor Morehart (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) as an offensive lineman, but those plans could change based on a Wednesday visit.

Assistant coach John Butler drove more than two hours to Morehart's high school and briefly chatted with the lineman. He noticed Morehart lost some weight and remarked how he might now be moved to defense if that continues.

That's just what the junior wanted to hear.

"I'd really like to play defense in college," he said. "I just play offense in high school because that's where they need me."

Morehart has devoted his offseason so far to improving his speed and agility. He's training with John Schaeffer, the same man who worked with Anton Apolo Ohno, the gold medalist speed skater.

He's aiming to lower his 40-yard-dash time to 4.9 seconds, and Butler told him the staff would be better able to gauge where he'd line up for Penn State if he attended one of its summer camps.

Morehart, who holds an offer from Rutgers, was also invited to Penn State's upcoming junior day. The in-state prospect hopes to attend both.

"I told him right away I'd definitely like to do it," he said. "I've never been to a junior day before, and I'm pretty interested in Penn State."

Michigan State stopped by his school last week, but Morehart insisted he held no favorites. Still, he said the schools who stick out most to him so far include Penn State, Ohio State, Miami (Fla.), Rutgers and West Virginia.

"My recruitment's definitely been awesome," he said. "I'm enjoying taking it all in."
