LB Mike Hull shines again

By Josh Moyer

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Mike Hull knows he has to wait his turn for starting snaps until next season, until the senior linebackers leave and he can step up and take their places.

But until then, he also knows he needs to make the most of his limited playing time. He certainly did Saturday.

"I just want to make big plays whenever I'm on the field and make big plays whenever possible," he said minutes after the game.

Hull followed up last week's 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown with another big play this week. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof felt confident enough to put the No. 4 'backer in on third downs and passing downs -- and the move paid off.

On a critical third-and-4 play in the second quarter, when PSU clung to a 7-0 lead, Temple was threatening. Chris Coyer stood just 7 yards from the end zone -- until Hull rounded the corner and sacked him for a loss of 8 yards.

Temple was forced to settle for three points instead, and Hull finished with three tackles and a sack.

So did Hull accomplish his goals of making big plays whenever possible?

"Yeah, a little bit," he said with a shrug. "But you always got to keep working."
