ESPN 150 RB Williams ready to decide

12/23/2012

Philadelphia Imhotep Charter running back David Williams is leaving the Mid-Atlantic.

The ESPN 150 prospect will announce his commitment on Jan. 4 at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Los Angeles.

“Me and my family talked about it after the recruiting period stopped and thought it’d be good,” Williams said.

The finalists for 6-foot-1, 192-pound running back are Arizona State, Miami (Fla.), Penn State and South Carolina. The Gamecocks have been the leader for the No. 124 prospect nationally for several months.

He has an official visit to South Carolina scheduled for Jan. 18 and said he will only make that visit if he commits to the Gamecocks. He unofficially visited South Carolina in the spring and had an in-home visit with coach Steve Spurrier and his recruiter GA Mangus two weeks ago.

“When I went down there I was impressed with the facilities and the area down there,” he said. “Also, I got a great relationship with Coach Mangus and also talk to Coach Spurrier every two weeks.”

Arizona State is the only school Williams had officially visited so far, making the trip in September. He knows the coaching staff well from when coach Todd Graham was at Pittsburgh.

“When I went on the trip I had a ball. I’ve seen the atmosphere during the football game and during the recruiting period when they could come I grew more [of a relationship] with the coaching staff,” Williams said.

Graham also made an in-home visit earlier this month, and Williams said his mother was very impressed with Graham.

Williams said his decision will likely come down to the Sun Devils and Gamecocks.

Miami hung around Williams’ top group as he knows the staff from when Al Golden was at Temple. Penn State was in a great position to land Williams before NCAA sanctions hammered the program in July.
