Wideout/athlete De'Andre Thompkins (Swansboro, N.C./Swansboro) -- No. 54 in the ESPN 150 -- has committed to Penn State, his high school coach said in a text message.
Thompkins was on the sideline during the Blue-White Game and said, at the time, that he was enjoying himself. He was joined by his father and football coach Tim Laspada.
He's now the headliner of this class and instantly helps Penn State's depth with his ability to play on both sides of the ball. He was primarily recruited as a wide receiver but could also play nickelback and will play returner. He's the fifth commit of the 2014 class and the second wideout.
Thompkins first visited during last year's Wisconsin game and came away impressed then. Penn State has been considered one of his favorites ever since.
"Penn State's always that school that most people never get to see in their lifetime; it's just one of the biggest stadiums and the best fan bases ever," he previously said. "I still get love from some of the fans there. I just love that place. You can't really put it into words when you're on a big campus like that, and you hear all the people screaming at the football game and you see the student section jumping and getting crazy."
