Class of 2014 linebacker Kevin Mouhon is the newest recruit to earn a scholarship offer from Penn State -- and even he didn't see it coming.
"It just came out of nowhere," the junior out of Norcross, Ga., said. "I wasn't expecting it. I didn't expect Penn State to offer or anything, or to get involved with me."
In the weight room Monday he caught up with his recruiting coach, who informed him of the good news.
"I was in disbelief at first," Mouhon added.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior acknowledged he knew little about Penn State. But, this early in his recruiting process, he is trying to keep an open mind.
Mouhon said he didn't focus on colleges during the season because he was intent on his team winning the state title. Norcross rallied for three touchdowns in the final quarter Saturday to win the Class 6A title 21-14 over Lovejoy -- so now, Mouhon said, it's time to delve deeper into his recruitment.
The junior, who claims a 4.7-second 40, boasts offers from the likes of Florida State, Nebraska and Oklahoma State, but he said he's not quite sure where his priorities lie outside of choosing a good academic school. At this early stage, he's just hoping to perform some research on the web, get a better feel for what's important, and figure out what schools are interested.
And, at this point, the track athlete plans to check up on Penn State, too.
"I mean, I don't know a lot about Penn State as a program," he said. "I know a little bit about them, but I want to look into the program more."
