The No. 4 moment of the season: Allen Robinson breaks the school's single-season receptions record.
Robinson was a backup wideout in 2011, an offensive afterthought that Matt McGloin said was never given a chance. In December of last year, Robinson acknowledged he had no expectations for the next season.
That all changed when Bill O'Brien came on board.
Robinson tirelessly worked on his route-running, set a goal of 70 catches for the season and he achieved that in one of the top moments of the season. On Nov. 17 against Indiana, he surpassed Penn State alumni Bobby Engram and O.J. McDuffie as the leader for catches in a single season.
Heading into the Indiana contest, he was tied atop first with 63 catches and needed just one to set the record. That record-setting reception came on a 3rd-and-6 play in the first quarter when he was tackled for a one-yard loss on a screen pass.
In a way, that reception would be the lowlight of the day. Robinson finished the game in style, winding up with 10 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns.
"It means a lot, just with some of the guys that come through here," Robinson said at the time. "It definitely means a lot."
Robinson came out of nowhere to become one of the Big Ten's best wideouts, and his record that day reinforced his elite status. That record also helped show O'Brien could evaluate talent, nurture underclassmen and get the ball to his playmakers.
And that's why it's the No. 4 moment of the season.
