NittanyNation contacted several Penn State commitments for their thoughts on the 34-7 victory against the Midshipmen.
Here’s what they had to say:
TE Adam Breneman (Harrisburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff)
Four stars, ESPN 150, No. 1 at position
"I was really happy for Coach [Bill] O'Brien. I'm just really happy I got to experience the first win of the O'Brien era; I was there about three hours before the game. I think the offense looked great, Allen Robinson played great, and it was good to see everything click. I think PSU could be 3-0 right now, and I'm not just staying that because I'm committed. I think they really could be.
"It's been great watching [the tight ends]. He's definitely utilizing like four of them, so I feel good about my opportunity to play as a freshman."
LB Brandon Bell (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest)
Three stars, No. 62 at position
"I definitely watched the game. It was a great win. The defense played great; the offense played great. They just played phenomenal. [Michael] Mauti had a big game -- he was all over the field with tackles. [Gerald] Hodges had a pick, and there was that fumble return.
"You know, I'm just going to keep fighting, keep trying to improve. It's the first win under O'Brien's belt, so hopefully we'll get the train rolling. It was a warm feeling. He's a good guy and a good coach. It's rewarding to see."
CB Jordan Smith (Washington D.C./Howard D. Woodson)
Three stars, No. 58 at position
"As the game was going on, me and my family, we were just yelling and screaming at every touchdown and with every tackle the defense was making. We were just very excited. Seeing O'Brien get his first win is a moving moment because that's the guy I'm going to be playing for next year. And to see him succeed makes me work harder to help him succeed even more.
"The defense is looking outstanding. They're playing very physical, very tough. The linebackers and the front four, they're creating havoc for the quarterback. The running backs aren't finding holes, the secondary's sticking to the receiver. They all just have great ball-awareness skills."
DE Curtis Cothran (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock)
Three stars, No. 93 at position
"I was just glad they got over the hump and grabbed their first win. It was funny because I was talking to my coaches, and they were saying how it was cool how we got our first win this week just like they did.
"I just hope when I get there, we can keep moving in a positive direction. I haven't talked to Coach [Larry] Johnson in a week -- I tried today -- but he keeps saying just to keep with the program and keep doing what I've been doing."
