With half the season in the books, who is the offensive player of the year so far in the league? The choices:
  • Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon: The Badgers' home run hitting back ranks third in the FBS with 870 rushing yards through six games, and he's averaging an eye-popping 9.7 yards per carry with eight touchdowns.
  • Penn State WR Allen Robinson: He leads the league in both receptions (43) and receiving yards (705) while adding five touchdowns. His big catch near the end of regulation against Michigan last week helped the Nittany Lions send the game into overtime, where they eventually won.
  • Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah: With Taylor Martinez injured, Abdullah has stepped up to become the leader of the Huskers' offense. He ranks second in the league in rushing with 816 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per carry, and he has scored six touchdowns.
  • Iowa RB Mark Weisman: He has been the Hawkeyes' workhorse, carrying the ball a Big Ten-leading 126 times for 624 yards. He has had four 100-yard games this season.
  • Illinois QB Nathan Scheelhaase: A healthy Scheelhaase has made a world of difference for the Illini offense. He has the top pass efficiency rating among quarterbacks who have started more than three games and is averaging 259 passing yards per game, with 12 touchdowns.
