Vernon Hargreaves, the nation’s top-ranked cornerback and No. 4 prospect overall, committed to Florida on Thursday, tweeting the news.
The five-star player wrote on his Twitter account: “I can officially say I am committed to THE University of Florida! #GoGators. CHOMP CHOMP!”
Hargreaves (Tampa/Wharton) had offers from across the country but recently had narrowed it to a top five of Florida, Clemson, Miami, Vanderbilt and Notre Dame, in that order.
Hargreaves will play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America game in St. Petersburg, Fla. He is Florida’s 18th commitment and becomes the highest-ranked player in the class.

A visit to USC by top-ranked cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) on Wednesday may have been overshadowed by the headline-grabbing commitments of Khaliel Rodgers, Nico Falah and Eddie Vanderdoes, but it wasn't overlooked.
The five-star athlete has serious interest in the Trojans and even pegged them as his leaders after his trip to Los Angeles.
"It was great," Hargreaves said. "It wasn't what I expected. I'd never been there before so I didn't know what to expect. I liked everything about it."

Five-star defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) will leave The Opening but remain on the West Coast for a few more days. The 5-10, 185-pound senior will take unofficial visits to Oregon, USC and Stanford.
These will be the first out-of-state visits for Hargreaves, who said he currently favors South Florida, Florida and Miami. After this trip he will visit more programs on the other side of the country, including Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson.
As for his West Coast swing, Hargreaves said stops at Oregon State, Cal and UCLA are also possibilities.

Ohio State already has the third- and fourth-ranked defensive backs in the nation from the ESPN 150 class of 2013 in Eli Woodard (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and Cam Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison). Could there be a chance to grab No. 1?

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Five-star cornerback prospect Vernon Hargreaves III (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) won defensive MVP of the IMG Madden 7-on-7 National Championship tournament on Sunday after Team Tampa beat Max Ex Blue 28-17 to win the tournament.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete had several interceptions over the course of the two-day tournament, including one against Michigan quarterback commit Shane Morris in the championship game.
