Three teams sure to make Edwards' list

By Jared Shanker

Mike Edwards (Cincinnati/Winton Woods) has more than a dozen offers, which is enough for him to start making decisions on which will be in his top group in the coming weeks.

Kentucky, which Edwards visited last weekend, Louisville and West Virginia are all locks to find their names among the leaders, the 6-foot, 180-pound safety said.

Edwards, who is close friends with 2013 Kentucky signee Jaleel Hytchye, has now visited Lexington three times since Mark Stoops took over in December. This visit was a little different for Edwards, who got to see the coaches and players work in practice and meetings.

“I got to sit in the meetings this time then watch them practice, and I talked to the whole coaching staff. The first two times I didn’t get to do that,” Edwards said. “I talked mostly with coach [Derrick] Ansley and coach [Vince] Marrow, too. They said to come there because it’s close to home and my family could come, and it’s the best conference.”

Edwards visited Louisville in March and went to West Virginia during the season. The Mountaineers just recently offered, but the program made enough of an impression on that visit to warrant a spot in Edwards’ upcoming top group.

“I always liked West Virginia and the defense, and I talk to the coaches all the time,” he said. “I like the whole program. It’s a good fit for me.”

One program that has not offered Edwards is Ohio State, although he and a few teammates, including ESPN Watch List defensive lineman Daniel Cage, visited the Buckeyes for practice on Thursday.

Edwards and his teammates arrived late and left early, but Edwards saw enough to say he “loved” his visit.

“It was exciting,” he said. “They were hype and talked a lot. I could see myself fitting in there.”

Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Nebraska are Edwards' other BCS offers.
