Ways blown away by Ohio State visit
By Brad Bournival
Maurice Ways (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) made his second unofficial visit to Ohio State on Tuesday.
There will be a third.
The 6-foot-3, 186-pound Ways took in a practice, toured the campus and talked one-on-one with coach Urban Meyer. And though an offer didn’t come, one might be just around the corner for the wide receiver.
The Buckeyes told Ways they want him to come back to a camp, either in June or July, and the response back was exactly what they wanted to hear.
“Oh yeah, I’m definitely coming back,” Ways said. “I saw their football facility, sat in on the position meetings and saw a practice.
“There was a lot of hard hitting and big plays. I loved the practice. The coaches were fired up. They’re probably the most fired up I’ve seen. It was very high speed, very up-tempo, very fast. It was very energetic. The fact that it’s March, and their first game is six months away, for them to be that fired up, it was amazing.”
Ways liked what he saw away from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, as well.
“I liked the off-the-field things,” he said. “It’s what I’m looking for in a college. The campus life was great. They love football and have love for the players.
“They’re definitely in my top list of schools. Although I don’t have an offer, I do want one. Once I have one, we’ll see what happens.”
As a junior, Ways made 51 catches for 957 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.
He currently has offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Toledo and Western Michigan.
There is also interest coming from California, Central Michigan, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin.
