A look at this weekend's OSU visitors
By Brad Bournival
Wide receiver Mike Gesicki (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) was in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday and was blown away by Ohio State. ESPN Watch List Quenton Nelson was, as well, and wraps up his visit today.
To say the least, the next few weeks -- especially next week -- Ohio State’s campus will be filled with prospective recruits as they say hello to the Buckeyes either for the first time or reacquaint themselves with coach Urban Meyer and Co. again.
With that in mind, here’s a look at one prospect currently on campus and two more big names that have visits planned this weekend:
Watch List OT Quenton Nelson (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank)
Offers: Alabama, Boston College, California, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Stanford, Temple, Tennessee, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
Outlook: Ohio State commit Kyle Trout (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) indicated to me on Wednesday that he was coming into town to show Nelson the ropes. It’ll be Nelson’s first trip to Columbus, and the Buckeyes are looking to hit a home run. With 30 offers, Nelson's recruitment is far from over. A good visit with the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Nelson should go a long way.
Offers: Boston College, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech.
Outlook: Another first-time visitor to Ohio State, Godwin will be on campus Saturday. He has indicated he doesn’t have a final list, but he is high on Ohio State’s board after a junior season in which he had more than 800 yards receiving and scored 12 touchdowns. The 6-2, 197-pound Godwin has been really looking forward to his visit with the Buckeyes.
Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Northwestern, Ohio State, Toledo, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
Outlook: The 6-5, 180-pound Kief’s recruitment has blown up lately. He’s no stranger to the Ohio State campus and loves the Buckeyes. After picking up an offer from Meyer, Kief said, “This is the offer I’ve always been chasing. It’s really important, because it’s the in-state school that every Ohio kid dreams of going to as a kid.” He was at Alabama last week, so this could be a big visit for Ohio State.
