Ohio State outlook: Tight ends in 2014

By Brad Bournival

As the 2014 recruiting class comes more and more into focus following what was another strong national signing day for Urban Meyer, BuckeyeNation is taking a position-by-position look at the juniors.

Today, we examine the tight end position. Though it’s still a fairly deep position on the depth chart, there are six offers out to juniors already.

Here are the six tight ends of 2014 not committed somewhere else who have an offer from Ohio State.

1. Jeb Blazevich (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian)

Offers: Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Outlook: The 6-foot-5, 223-pound Blazevich has put Ohio State in his final six. While he had to postpone a trip to Columbus because of snowy weather last week, he’s trying to reschedule and is very much on the Buckeyes' radar.

2. Tyler Luatua (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada)

Offers: Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, California, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State

Outlook: There’s a reason half the country is after the 6-3, 243-pound Luatua as offers continue to pour in. Right now, it looks like it’s a battle between Alabama and Notre Dame.

3. Nic Weishar (Chicago/Marist)

Offers: Arkansas, Boston College, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin

Outlook: Last season’s 12-0 performance certainly helped in the recruitment of the 6-5, 210-pound Weishar. This one could come down to a fight with Michigan.

4. Bryce Dixon (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure)

Offers: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Miami, Ohio State, Texas A&M, UCLA, Utah, Washington

Outlook: As his offers state, there is a lot of interest in the 6-4, 260-pound Dixon out West. While he’s being recruited nationally, it might be hard to pull him out of the region.

5. Ian Bunting (Hindsale, Ill./Hindsale)

Offers: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, South Florida, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin

Outlook: The 6-6, 210-pund Bunting had a top three until Michigan and Ohio State offered. Now everything is wide open. Expect a fight with the Wolverines more than anyone else.

6. Vincent Jackson (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit)

Offers: Auburn, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Purdue, Rutgers, South Florida, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCF, USC, West Virginia

Outlook: The 6-3, 231-pound Jackson loves the SEC, but likes USC as well. He’s a dream for the Buckeyes at best.
