Detroit 2015 RB Weber plans two trips
By Brad Bournival
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mike Weber (Detroit/Cass Tech) already counts four Division I offers. The sophomore running back is looking for more and has planned two big trips next month.
A 5-foot-10, 195-pound sophomore, Weber has offers from Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State and Syracuse, but is eyeing trips to Notre Dame and Ohio State.
“I like all my offers right now,” Weber said Saturday at the New Level Athletics 7 on 7 Midwest Regional. “I think I’m going to ride this out and decide my senior year, but I’m really looking forward to visiting Notre Dame and Ohio State in April. I’m traveling with Max Ex right now and doing these 7-on-7s [tournaments].”
After rushing for 1,825 yards and 21 touchdowns and making 15 receptions for 235 yards and more scores last season, Weber is starting to blow up on the recruiting scene at a school known for producing top recruits.
There’s just something about the Fighting Irish that has his attention.
“I’m hoping to get up there because I’m pretty sure I’m going to get an offer the same day,” Weber said. “I really like them. They have a good program and the environment is great also.”
One visit that is set comes April 6 when he will join 2014 Ohio State commitment Damon Webb and what he hopes are a few more of his teammates in Columbus, Ohio.
It will be an introduction of sorts for the sophomore, who has heard quite a bit about the Buckeyes.
“It’ll be my first trip down there,” Weber said. “I’m hoping for that offer. I want to visit and meet all the coaches and see how it is down there. I just want to see how the people are. How they act. I want to see the whole nine yards.”
Aside from the four offers and the Notre Dame and Ohio State interest, Weber also has interest from Florida and UCLA.
