Ohio State outlook: Top 5 CBs in 2014

By Brad Bournival

As the 2014 recruiting class comes more and more into focus following what was yet another strong national signing day for Urban Meyer, BuckeyeNation is taking a position-by-position look at the juniors.

Today, we examine the cornerbacks, a position that was a big strength in the 2013 OSU class with one five-star cornerback and four other four-star defensive backs. The Buckeyes also already have a commit at the position in Watch List CB Damon Webb (Detroit/Cass Tech), one of the top juniors in the country.

Here are the top five cornerbacks not committed elsewhere who have an offer from the Buckeyes.

Jabrill Peppers
Watch List CB Jabrill Peppers has Ohio State in his top five.
1. Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, N.J./Paramus)

Offers: Alabama, Boston College, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, USC

Outlook: The Buckeyes are very much a player for the ESPN Watch List junior. The 6-foot, 185-pound Peppers put Ohio State in his top five along with LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and Stanford.

2. Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen)

Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Rutgers, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, West Virginia

Outlook: Brown and defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs have a pretty solid relationship already. The 6-foot, 179-pound Brown has plans to visit Ohio State this summer.

3. Jalen Tabor (Washington D.C./Friendship Academy)

Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Outlook: The 6-1, 170-pound Tabor has his eyes on the Buckeyes as well as a few other schools. It’s imperative for Ohio State to get the ESPN Watch List junior on campus for a visit.

4. Quincy Wilson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University School)

Offers: Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCF, Wake Forest, West Virginia

Outlook: The 6-1, 185-pound Wilson hasn’t released a top five, but the Buckeyes are pulling out all the stops to land him.

5. Parrker Westphal (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook)

Offers: Cincinnati, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Purdue, West Virginia

Outlook: The 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback certainly likes the Buckeyes. It could be a battle between Ohio State and Michigan for the versatile ESPN Watch List junior.
