2014 Michigan DE picks Buckeyes

By Brad Bournival

Urban Meyer picked up his second junior in the trenches and raided Michigan again.

This time the Buckeyes nabbed defensive end Lawrence Marshall (Southfield, Mich./Southfield) to go along with the commitment of offensive tackle Kyle Trout (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) on Sunday.

Marshall, who confirmed his pledge in a text message, becomes the fourth commitment for the Buckeyes in the 2014 class and the 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior is a big get as Ohio State went to "that state up north" to get him.

He is the second commitment of Sunday for the school and lives just 40 minutes outside of Ann Arbor, Mich.

“Ohio State is a great school,” Marshall said. “My family loves it.

“I could see myself playing there. Ohio State has everything. I just really wanted to be a Buckeye.”

Marshall had offers from Bowling Green, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, Syracuse, Tennessee and Toledo.

“I’m a hard-working player that never gives up on anything I love,” Marshall said. “His ability to get defensive linemen to the league had a big impact on my decision. Urban Meyer is a winning coach. Who doesn't want to be a part of a winning team? I just see myself winning a national championship there.”

The defensive end joins Damon Webb (Detroit/Cass Tech) as Michigan natives giving their pledge to the Buckeyes in the 2014 class.

Marshall becomes the first defensive lineman in the class and is the 12th on the defensive front for Meyer since he took over in November 2011.

In 2013, the Buckeyes signed Billy Price, Donovan Munger, Joey Bosa, Michael Hill, Tyquan Lewis and Tracy Sprinkle.
