Ohio State offers 6-5, 270-pound DE
By Brad Bournival
(Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic), a 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive end, didn’t mince words about his latest offer.
He talked at length about Ohio State and what it meant to pick up the honor from the Buckeyes.
He knows because his high school has a famous alumnus in former nose tackle
, who played for Ohio State.
So when Urban Meyer came calling with an offer, it went a long way with the junior.
“It’s a huge deal to me,” Thompson said. “Coach Meyer is a great coach. He put Florida on the map. He put Ohio State on the map. He knows what he’s doing. I feel like it’s a great program.”
Thompson plans seeing how great it is, as he's planning a trip to Ohio State on an unofficial visit either March 22 or 23. He’ll also head to Cincinnati in April for the Buckeyes’ spring game.
“I want to see all their academics and what they’re good in as far as majors,” Thompson said. “I want to see the weight room, the locker room. I’m hoping to put on a jersey.
“I love the Ohio State colors. It’s the only way to go. They have really cool uniforms. I’ve seen the video of their weight room. It’s really cool how they did it.”
Thompson has offers from Illinois and Indiana.
He also has interest from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Iowa, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Wisconsin.
“I’m a really big kid with a lot of speed, a lot of explosiveness,” Thompson said. “I want to do my best to get a team to a BCS Bowl game.”
