OLB Kyle Berger picks up first SEC offer
By Brad Bournival
A Southeastern Conference school has reached out with an offer to Kyle Berger (Cleveland/St. Ignatius).
A 6-foot-3, 205-pound outside linebacker whose first offer came from Ohio State in November, he now counts nine offers to his name. The latest came from Tennessee, and it’s an offer the junior is excited about.
“Tennessee means a lot to me, especially because it’s an SEC school,” Berger said.
The Volunteers’ offer falls in line with the Buckeyes, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and West Virginia, who offered before them.
It also gives Berger some incentive to put in the extra effort as he has tentative plans to announce his college of choice this spring.
“This attention makes me want to work harder, so I can be a lot better next year because I know there is room for improvement,” Berger said. “A lot more people are going to watch me, so I need to get better. But it’s very humbling, knowing all my hard work the last couple years has paid off.”
As a junior, he finished with 90 tackles -- 39 for loss -- and registered 8½ sacks.
Berger also has interest from Iowa, Notre Dame, Stanford and Vanderbilt.
