OSU fishes out offer for Watch List OT
By Brad Bournival
It’s an offer the ESPN Watch List junior had talked about for awhile. Now, it has finally happened for the 6-foot-5, 254-pound offensive tackle.
Kyle Trout (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) had talked about what it would mean to get an offer from Ohio State after the Friday Night Lights camp in July.
He spoke of it again after the Buckeyes beat the University of Central Florida back in September while he was on an unofficial visit.
Back in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday for another unofficial visit, the much-sought after Trout nabbed the coveted offer from his in-state school.
“Kyle said that he’s honored to been offered by Urban Meyer and the Ohio State University,” his father Kevin said. “He hadn’t even considered it as possibility. It was in the back of his mind, but to hear that he was one of the top tackles on their board and that he could commit right now, it meant a lot to him. He was honored.”
In offering Trout, the Buckeyes joined Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Toledo and West Virginia.
It also might have kicked the timeline up for Trout as far as a commitment goes.
“He originally said he wanted to decide after his senior year [of football],” Kevin said. “Now, he said he might make that decision sooner rather than later.”
Louisville, Michigan and Wisconsin are also showing interest in the versatile Trout.
