Georgia offers ESPN Watch List DE

By Radi Nabulsi

When Georgia lost defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner to Auburn, the worry amongst the Georgia fans was more focused on how his departure would impact recruiting so close to signing day rather than what would happen on the defensive front. But according to one ESPN Watch List standout, Garner’s replacement will do just fine.

Defensive end Andrew Williams (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing) just picked up a Georgia offer from new Bulldogs defensive line coach Chris Wilson.

“I haven’t even put it on Twitter yet,” Williams said. “Coach Wilson told my defensive line coach that I had an offer when he left the school. It feels good to finally say I have that in-state offer.”

The offer to Wilson was one of the first the new coach has extended so far.

“That is real good because all the other times that I went to Georgia I felt that Coach Garner didn’t believe in me from what he saw,” Williams said. “I guess he underestimated me from what I did at Dawg Night. I held my own against a couple of his seniors and beat a lot of people. I just don’t know why, but Coach Garner never really saw it there. But Coach Wilson saw some of my film and he believed in me, I guess.”

Before the offer, Wilson was not planning on having much to do with the Bulldogs.

“I really didn’t look at Georgia that much because Coach Garner and I had some differences, but Coach Wilson and I had a good long talk after he left and he seems like a great guy,” Williams said. “You got to love the in-state offer.”

Williams has offers from a long line of top programs like Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State and Ohio State among others. He is working on visiting as many of the programs as possible this spring.

“I don’t have a leader yet but after these visits I will definitely know,” Williams said. “I am going to South Carolina or Clemson on Feb. 2. Clemson came in and made a big ruckus about me not coming on the 2nd so that is why I have to decide which one to go to. I have Georgia on Feb. 16. I’ll go to Florida, and Ohio State wants me to come down soon. I will definitely be going to those two.”
