OSU extends offer to Florida sophomore
By Brad Bournival
Urban Meyer went back to a school he knew well to hand out his latest scholarship offer.
And, in what has been the theme of the week, the former Florida coach gave the offer to a wide receiver in the state he used to recruit well.
This time it went out to George Campbell (Tarpon Springs, Fla./East Lake), who goes to the same school as junior Ohio State targets Mason Cole and Artavis Scott.
The 6-foot-3, 177-pound Campbell is more than two years from his signing day, however, and the 2015 athlete already has many offers with Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Ohio State, South Florida, UCF and Vanderbilt all asking for his services.
The Buckeyes aren’t small potatoes, according to Campbell, who also has interest from Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma.
“It means a lot,” Campbell said of the Buckeyes’ offer. “It basically shows me even though I am young, they like my skills and the playmaker I am.”
This season, Campbell finished with 30 passes for 766 yards and five touchdowns.
Those numbers -- and his size -- have put him on the map early.
“I am pretty surprised,” he said. “But at the same time, I knew by working and doing what I do, the attention would come at some time.”
