Juco LB Martrell Spaight is Big 12 bound

By Damon Sayles

Kansas State picked up a huge commitment Monday evening. An MVP-type player, if you will.

Junior college outside linebacker Martrell Spaight (Coffeyville, Kan./Coffeyville Community College) announced via Twitter that he verbally committed to the Wildcats. The commitment was then confirmed by the Red Ravens coaching staff.

"Everything they do is just like us at Coffeyville; the coaches really made me feel at home," Spaight said.

Spaight, who is 6-foot and 218 pounds, was named the defensive MVP of the competitive Jayhawk Conference this season after an outstanding sophomore campaign.

Originally from North Little Rock, Ark., Spaight chose Kansas State over offers from offers from Minnesota, Indiana, Rutgers, Arkansas State, South Florida and Memphis.

He also had heavy interest from Ohio State and West Virginia.

Spaight recorded 130 tackles, seven sacks, three pass breakups and a blocked kick in nine games for Coffeyville, which placed third in the Jayhawk Conference.
