Two OSU pledges still alive in playoffs
By Brad Bournival
Two Ohio State pledges that go to a school with the Raiders nickname headed into high playoff action over the weekend, both lived another week.
Joey Bosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) brought his Raiders in as underdogs against Manatee -- the nation’s No. 1 team in the ESPN 25 Power Rankings -- and walked away a 35-18 winner in a Florida 7A semifinal playoff game.
They'll play Tallahassee Lincoln next week in a state final. Lincoln happens to be the team of Buckeyes target James Hearns, a Florida pledge.
Aquinas snapped a 25-game winning streak by Manatee and held a team that averaged 50.4 points per game to less than 20. The Hurricanes managed just 293 yards of offense and only 79 yards on the ground.
While J.T. Barrett (Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider) is still nursing a torn ACL and meniscus back to health, his Raiders knocked off Frenship 33-7 to reach the Class 4A state semifinals for the first time in school history. Rider will play Justin Northwest on Friday.
