Coach: Munger enjoys 'on-field' scene

By Brad Bournival

For Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) it’s been a rivalry month, so to speak.

An ESPN 300 defensive tackle with several Division I suitors, he took in the Ohio State-Michigan game Saturday.

It came on the heels of an official visit to the Rose Bowl to see UCLA take on USC the previous weekend.

“I asked him how was it different from the UCLA-USC game and he said it was a great experience on both ends,” his high school coach Jarvis Gibson said. “At UCLA he was impressed with the fact the Bruins were playing freshmen and sophomores and how they battled. It wasn’t like one visit was better than the other.”

There was one thing a little different, however, as the 6-foot-3, 280-pound Munger was the third recruit to hop the fence and charge the field after the Buckeyes’ 26-21 win over Michigan. ESPN Watch List defensive end and teammate Joe Henderson was recruit No. 2 over the wall, incidentally.

“He said the difference was they weren’t able to storm the field at UCLA,” Gibson said. “He said the atmosphere was just a little larger at 'The 'Shoe.' You’re talking 106,000 in the stadium and probably another 100,000 outside the stadium.

“He just liked the atmosphere, period. We discussed how [Urban Meyer] is winning without his own recruits. Just imagine how he’ll do with his own recruits.”

Munger is in no hurry to make a decision. His final 11 are Louisville, Georgia, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and West Virginia.
