How Ohio State pledges fared
By Brad Bournival
Johnny Townsend (Orlando, Fla./Boone) is more than just a punter. While his 58-yard boot turned into a muffed punt that Boone recovered inside the 10, the Ohio State commit also recorded a sack and five tackles from his safety position. It led to a playoff-clinching 35-7 win over Cypress Creek.
Here’s how the other 16 Buckeyes commits fared over the weekend:
J.T. Barrett: Rider (Texas) quarterback is out for season with torn ACL and meniscus. Team still beat Denton 40-7.
Marcus Baugh: Tight end pledge made an interception at linebacker in Riverside (Calif.) John W. North’s 28-6 win over Arlington (Calif.). Also had three catches for 63 yards.
Joey Bosa: Defensive tackle was part of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas squad that held Cooper City scoreless in 53-0 win that clinched playoff spot.
Cam Burrows: Cornerback and Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) did not allow Mount Healthy to cross midfield until the fourth quarter of a 48-0 Division II playoff win. Mount Healthy managed just 97 yards. Burrows also recovered a fumble.
Ezekiel Elliott: Running back gained 119 yards on 13 carries and scored five total touchdowns in St. Louis John Burroughs’ 56-13 win over John F. Kennedy (Mo.). Will play Soldan tonight.
Tim Gardner: Offensive tackle kept Lawrence Central (Ind.) undefeated in 21-7 win over North Central. Team advanced to regional round for second time in last three years with victory.
Michael Hill: Pendleton (S.C.) earned 9-6 Class AA opening-round win over Prosperity Mid-America. Hill is out for the season with a hand injury.
Taivon Jacobs: Wide receiver made three catches for 74 yards and scored a touchdown in Forestville (Md.) Suitland’s 49-7 win over Eleanor Roosevelt (Md.).
Darron Lee: New Albany (Ohio) quarterback/safety led team to 25-6 Division II playoff win over Beechcroft. Took backseat to Alan Watson, who scored all touchdowns for the Eagles.
Tyquan Lewis: Tarboro (N.C.) defensive end kept the Vikings undefeated with 53-13 opening round playoff win over Beddingfield.
Evan Lisle: Centerville (Ohio) offensive tackle’s season is over.
