Allen Lazard ranks OSU scene in top 2
By Jared Shanker
Following his first ever visit to Ohio State, 2014 receiver Allen Lazard (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) is confident there is something special going on in Columbus.
The ESPN Watch List prospect spent the entire day at Ohio State, meeting with Urban Meyer around noon before seeing all the Buckeyes’ program has to offer.
“I like the whole tradition there. It’s always been a good school. I feel Coach Meyer has something special there. They’re going to win a national championship in the next few years. It’ll be a great place to be.”
Lazard does not have an Ohio State offer, but the coaches let him know he is someone they are keeping a close eye on. At 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, Lazard would bring unique size to Meyer’s spread attack.
“They said they really like me because I have a bigger body and I’d fit great into their offense,” he said. “They said they want to see a little bit more film before they officially offer me, but they really like me.”
The atmosphere at Ohio State made a big impression on Lazard, but ironically he ranked it second to the team the Buckeyes beat Saturday.
“I’d probably put them second to Nebraska. Nebraska fans are just really crazy. They weren’t as crazy as Nebraska but there were so many. Everyone at Ohio State participates and yells.”
Nebraska hosted Lazard for a visit Sept. 29, which was also for a night game. It was the fans at Nebraska that impressed him most.
“They were so loud. When I was on the field with the other recruits we had to walk in the locker room before the start of the game,” he said. “A good majority of the fans started cheering for us and tried to recruit us for Nebraska.”
Oregon will be at Lazard’s school Monday. Lazard said the Ducks have shown significant interest in him.
Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska have offered Lazard.
