Five Stories to Watch: Ohio State camp

By Brad Bournival

This month is very important for Ohio State, as the staff is set to host its senior advanced camp on Friday. Hundreds of prospects will be in attendance, including several top targets. Here are five storylines to watch this week:

1. Who’s next?

Commitments from those who have camped in June are in the double digits from the last two years. For that matter, so are offers. Two weeks ago, inside linebacker Justin Hilliard (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), cornerback Ashton White (Washington D.C./Friendship Collegiate), outside linebacker Rahshaun Smith (Towson, Md./Calvert Hill) and defensive tackle Rashan Gary (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch-Plains-Fanwood) picked up offers from the Buckeyes. There’s no doubt there will be more coming following this camp, but to who?

2. Three-for-all

Last year, Ohio State essentially locked up safety Vonn Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland) when he made a visit in June to participate in camp. On Friday, ESPN 150 wide receiver Johnnie Dixon (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) and defensive tackle Elisha Shaw (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) are slated to be on campus and participating. ESPN 300 running back Derrell Scott (Havelock, N.C./Havelock) is also supposed to be there. Can a relationship be built that lasts until signing day?

3. Electric Eric

Eric-Glover Williams (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) stole a little bit of the commitment thunder on a big official visit weekend in December when he picked up an offer from Ohio State during a very busy three-day stretch. The athlete, who will once again play quarterback for the Bulldogs this season, is slated to participate in drills. As a sophomore, Glover-Williams rushed for 1,810 yards and 22 scores on 243 attempts and was 75-of-154 passing for 1,114 yards with 12 touchdowns.

4. It’s on you

On June 9, White, Smith, Gary, Hilliard, Cameron Chambers, Nick Bosa and Terry McLaurin stole the show for the underclassmen and took some shine off the 2014 class with strong showings. Dixon, Shaw and Scott will have their work cut out for them this time as underclassmen Andrew and David Dowell (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward), Damien Harris (Berea, Ky./Madison Southern), Matt Jones (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), Mike Williams (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) and Glover-Williams should push them.

5. Tucker-ed in

Shaw isn’t the only big name from Georgia slated to participate. In fact, the 6-foot-6, 296-pound senior isn’t the only big name from his school headed to campus, as safety Kirk Tucker and outside linebacker Detric Dukes intend to be at the camp as well. Incidentally, all three have Ohio State offers.
