Five who might get away from Buckeyes
By Brad Bournival
On Monday, BuckeyeNation looked at the next possible five commitments Ohio State might land.
With Urban Meyer being Urban Meyer, the two-time national champion is only going after the best of the best. That means the Buckeyes not only will butt heads in recruiting with the SEC, but places like Oregon and USC, as well.
With that in mind, here are five players Ohio State is after who likely will find a home some place else.
Before reading the five, understand the Buckeyes are still very much in the running for players like offensive tackle Jamarco Jones (Chicago/De La Salle), wide receiver Demarre Kitt (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) and of course linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County), so there's no need to panic.
Offers: Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Washington.
Outlook: Brace yourselves, Ohio State fans. Hand likely is gone to Michigan. The Buckeyes aren't in his top five, and Brady Hoke and Co. hit a home run with the ESPN 150 defensive end on his visit in March.
Offers: Alabama, Boston College, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, USC.
Outlook: Peppers originally had Ohio State tied with Stanford, now he has Michigan tied with the Cardinal. The ESPN 150 athlete is making a trip out to Stanford in July to see where he stands. Expect Ohio State to get shut out here.
Offers: Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Michigan, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Carolina, Stanford, USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Outlook: The ESPN 150 running back originally had Ohio State in his top three, with Notre Dame and Michigan. That has changed after some thought. He has a trip planned this weekend to see the Fighting Irish. If he doesn't commit there, he might stay home and go to North Carolina.
Outlook: Yes, BuckeyeNation is saying he’s out. Ohio State still ranks high, but the ESPN 150 inside linebacker has been all SEC lately and also wants to see UCLA and USC. The Buckeyes are still high on Garrett, but our gut says he moves on.
